The move will place the Google-owned video site in competition with Ustream, the video service that lets anyone with a webcam stream live, and which has been used by a number of bands and labels as a marketing tool.
Although it will not be the first time You Tube as done live streaming, it has previously been restricted to live events. However, now the organisation is increasing the amount of live streaming content they provide through partnerships with professional media outlets - this week in the US with Howcast, Next New Networks, Rocketboom and Young Hollywood.
With more partnerships set to be announced as the month continues, insiders say the eventual aim will be to open the live streaming option out to the public.
