Quadron-'Quadron'

Surprisingly, The Scandanavian soul scene is thriving right now and this is partly due to Danish ‘Electro Soul’ producing duo Quadron. Singer Coco Maja Hastrup Karshøj and multi-instrumentalist/ producer Robin Hannibal create soul-music that will excite the eardrums. Quadron have been together for a couple of years now, and their self-titled album, released late 2009 earned rave reviews.

Quadron have a contemporary approach to Soul music; simplistic, ethereal and often with influences from 70′s disco. Coco’s voice is fantastic, with a similar romantic style to Jill Scott perhaps. Her voice is soothing yet powerful, managing to be simultaneously gentle and resonating.

Their impressive variety of styles cater for a wide ranging taste. from disco-soul in Slippin’ to George Clinton-esque funk heard in the song Average Fruit. Wistful vocals flatter the ambient bassline in the track Day.

Nicolay with The Hot at Nights-'The Shibuya Session EP'

+FE Music proudly presents the "Shibuya Session EP", a collaboration between Nicolay and the Raleigh-based exploratory jazz trio The Hot At Nights, led by 8-string guitar virtuoso (and The Foreign Exchange guitarist) Chris Boerner with Matt Douglas on sax/woodwinds and Nick Baglio on drums.
The EP was recorded at Sound Pure Studios in Durham NC and features new interpretations and arrangements of eight instrumental compositions from Nicolay's 2009 album "City Lights Vol. 2: Shibuya".

Dego -'Wha Him Deh Pon'

Dennis 'Dego' McFarlane makes up one-half of Dollis Hill producer 4Hero (alongside Marc 'Marc Mac' Clair) who have been about since, more or less, the very beginning of British dance music. Starting their careers on pirate radio in the late 80s, they were instrumental in the launch of seminal drum and bass label Reinforced Records (at a time when ‘drum and bass’ as a term didn’t exist) and went on to release a number of scene-shaping 12”s under a crop of aliases including Tek 9 and Rufige Cru (with Goldie).

On the heels of all the lovely gems from the vaults, Dego releases his solo debut full length & it is BLAZIN' HOT!!! Everything that you'd expect from him. That perfect blend of soul, hip hop, electrofunk, afro broken beat with roots in jazz-funk, reggae & dub. Progressive & refreshed with a little help from a host of stellar friends including longtime collaborator Kaidi Tatham, electro-funk goddess Georgia Anne Muldrow, the human sound machine Taylor McFerrin, singers Nadine Charles, Sharlene Hector, Nia Andrews & many more. King-'The Story' EP

Over the past couple of weeks a bit of a storm has been brewing on across the web about the debut EP release from an american all girl collective known as KING.

KING are described as ”a soulful, organic trio of young women here to bring a fresh creativity to music and change the world through their art”. They consist of twin sisters Paris and Amber Strother and Anita Bias who hails from Los Angeles. They write all their own songs and Paris fully produces the tracks herself. These three talented ladies saw their musical stock rise considerably over the past month after Questlove and Phonte began tweeting about their love for KING. What ensued was a series of articles about the trio and their fantastic tunes. Their debut EP, The Story, is an amalgam of sounds that feature the best parts of R&B, soul, and electronic music. And it all makes for a vibe highly reminiscent of what we have heard from Blouse'n' Skirt favorite the Foreign Exchange.....I have listened to it myself and I gotta say it's pretty dope
