Exclusive Download: Nostalgia 77 Remix Track

Contemporary jazz aficionado Benedic Lamdin, known as Nostalgia 77, will release his new EP Beautiful Lie (Tru Thoughts) on July 26. But before he drops the whole EP, comprised of live and remix versions of tracks off his 2010 full-length The Sleepwalking Society, next week, we are giving away an exclusive download of one of the cuts off the release.

“Beautiful Lie (Natural Magnetic Remix)” morphs the original from a jazzy, bossa nova-ish groove into an avant garde downtempo electronica track while retaining the original’s calm mood. Nostalgia 77 worked on the remix with
Natural Self and Fringe Magnetic‘s Rory Simmons, as well as bringing in German singer Josa Peit to re-record the vocals she provided on the original.

Nostalgia 77′s
Beautiful Lie EP is a bit of a departure from his usual jazz, but Lamdin has by no means abandoned his roots. Still smooth, creamy, and definitely jazzy, the tracks on the upcoming EP channel a certain amount of the blues and folk energy Lamden brought to the making of The Sleepwalking Society.

Dego -'Wha Him Deh Pon'

Dennis 'Dego' McFarlane makes up one-half of Dollis Hill producer 4Hero (alongside Marc 'Marc Mac' Clair) who have been about since, more or less, the very beginning of British dance music. Starting their careers on pirate radio in the late 80s, they were instrumental in the launch of seminal drum and bass label Reinforced Records (at a time when ‘drum and bass’ as a term didn’t exist) and went on to release a number of scene-shaping 12”s under a crop of aliases including Tek 9 and Rufige Cru (with Goldie).

On the heels of all the lovely gems from the vaults, Dego releases his solo debut full length & it is BLAZIN' HOT!!! Everything that you'd expect from him. That perfect blend of soul, hip hop, electrofunk, afro broken beat with roots in jazz-funk, reggae & dub. Progressive & refreshed with a little help from a host of stellar friends including longtime collaborator Kaidi Tatham, electro-funk goddess Georgia Anne Muldrow, the human sound machine Taylor McFerrin, singers Nadine Charles, Sharlene Hector, Nia Andrews & many more. Taylor McFerrin-'Early Riser'

The McFerrin clan is creating a beatboxing dynasty. Father Bobby hit the pop heights in the '80s with "Don't Worry Be Happy" and caught ears with his knack for making music with his mouth. Next up is his son, Taylor based in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. He has sustained an major buzz in the Future Soul scene ever since his 2007 EP 'Broken Vibes' gained heavy rotation by DJ's such as Benji B, Gilles Peterson and Garth Trinidad. His production credits include remixes for The Cinematic Orchestra, Amp Fiddler and Corrine Bailey Rae, as well as album tracks for Jose James and UK Rapper TY.

He has also toured worldwide as a one man show, playing major festivals such as Lollapalooza, Glastonbury, The Big Chill, and Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Festival. In New York alone he has performed at such legendary venues as The Apollo, The Blue Note, Radio City Music Hall and The Lincoln Jazz Center, opening up for artists such as Erykah Badu, the Roots, Nas, Talib Kweli and J* Davey.

His musical style is equally influenced by the legends of 60's / 70's soul and the kings of the Modern Beat Generation. By playing all the instruments on his productions, while also relying heavily on resampling and chopping up his live takes, he has found a sound that bridges those two worlds.
Taylor McFerrin’s three track preview is a sample of what we can expect on his full-length release, but it’s also a peek at what the multi-faceted producer can do. Give him a style and he can run with it. “Place In My Heart” as original as it is for its hypnotic spiral of singer Ryat’s vocals, there’s a wurlitzer chord buried underneath that sounds like a nod to Stevie Wonder’s “All I Do.” Then beyond the vertigo of all the instruments he plays himself, the third teaser in the mix dives into some UK dubstep, another sign of his worldly appeal.

The Story Of Lovers Rock

The STORY OF LOVERS ROCK is a feature length documentary tells the story of an era and a music that defined a generation in the late 70s and 80s. Lovers Rock is romantic reggae that was uniquely British. It developed from a small UK scene to become a global brand through the likes of UB40 and Maxi Priest
Lovers Rock was particularly influential to a new generation of black British young women and men who identified with this music that reflected their experiences. Female artists like Louisa Marks, Janet Kay, Brown Sugar, Carroll Thompson led a 'girl power explosion in it's early phase. The music provided a coping mechanism against a backdrop of racial tension and riots across the UK as well as being a counterpoint to the male dominated 'roots' scene. The film combines live performances with some of the Kings and Queens of Lovers Rock with comedy sketches, interviews and archive material. Interviews include Denis Bovell, UB40, Levi Roots Linton Kwesi Johnson, Angie La Ma, Maxi Priest, Mykaell Riley, The comedy sketches are provided by the likes of Eddie Nestor, Robbie G, Wayne Rollins, Glenda Jaxson. James Blake-'James Blake'

He’s been named the 2nd most anticipated Sound of 2011 by BBC, so here’s a chance to get familiar with the rising producer. Considered part of the post-dubstep genre, James Blake seems to be in a field of his own. Stevie Wonder and dubstep group Digital Mystikz name a few of his influences, and you can definitely see that in this track. Note: it’s best heard through a good pair of headphones or the best speakers in your house.

Jesse Boykins III-'The Way of The Wayfarer'

“After my last release “The Beauty Created” 3years ago, I took some time to truly discover my art, my spirit, my voice, my style, my love for life and its mysteries. That journey has taken me around the world, exposed me to various cultures and people, and enlightened and influenced me along the way. “Way Of A Wayfarer” is me sharing with you those moments and those lessons, in hopes that I can inspire you to share your moments and lessons with the rest of the World. That is the only way, the universal way. Much love & many thanks to SoulCulture, Street Etiquette & #PassportLife for taking this journey with me. Schwaza.
