"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side."
Hunter S Thompson

BEATS, RHYMES & LIFE: THE TRAVELS OF A TRIBE CALLED QUEST is a documentary film directed by Michael Rapaport about one of the most influential and groundbreaking musical groups in hip-hop history. Having released five gold and platinum selling albums within eight years, "A Tribe Called Quest" has been one of the most commercially successful and artistically significant musical groups in recent history, and regarded as iconic pioneers of hip hop. The band's sudden break-up in 1998 shocked the industry and saddened the scores of fans, whose appetite for the group's innovative musical stylings never seems to diminish. A hard-core fan himself, Rapaport sets out on tour with "A Tribe Called Quest" in 2008, when they reunited to perform sold-out concerts across the country, almost ten years after the release of their last album, The Love Movement. As he travels with the band members (Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi White), Rapaport captures the story of how tenuous their relationship has become; how their personal differences and unresolved conflicts continue to be a threat to their creative cohesion. When mounting tensions erupt backstage during a show in San Francisco, we get a behind-the-scenes look at their journey and contributions as a band and what currently is at stake for these long-time friends and collaborators.Check the Ryhme!

What do you get when you put together afrobeat legend Fela Kuti and rap pioneers De La Soul? You get Fela Soul; a musical tapestry created by Gummy Soul artist Amerigo Gazaway. More than just a clever title, Fela Soul is an 8-track, 33 minute journey into the world of afrobeat rhythms, funky horn riffs, and classic hip-hop gems. Using dozens of hand-picked samples from the Nigerian instrumentalist and political figure Fela Kuti, and 8 carefully-chosen acapellas from the Native Tongue rap trio De La Soul, Amerigo seamlessly intertwines the two into something completely new and original.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble proudly present their new release titled “Bulletproof Brass,” a 6 song mini album showcasing this family band’s unrivaled musicianship and universal appeal...
Spring 2011 saw the group reform (like Voltron) in their native Chicago to record a selection of the many new songs they have written over the past few years touring and recording. Mesmerising melodies and pulsating rhythms that sound from another world are like a remedy or tonic to the listener in this digital age of over produced music. Bonafide, raw and unadulterated; HBE’s music grips the listener and brings them on a trip to another world teaching the true value and meaning of music.
Bandleader Hudah says of the new record “The EP ‘Bulletproof Brass’ is part of the next mission for HBE. The stage in our quest for completely rescuing music from the hands of vultures, and parasites. Our mission starts with us as ‘Starfighters’, wearing ‘Bulletproof Brass’ armour. ‘Touching The Sky’, HBE began taking ‘Kryptonite’ from the ‘Black Boy’, travelling the galaxy and cosmos, HBE crushed all fear of peace, with the most fierce battle being fought on ‘Pluto’. HBE is victorious, in becoming ‘World Champions’, in the war on music. In our opinion, we need to create new dialogue regarding how great the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble are. By releasing singles, producing music for artist's, creating relationships with our fans to develop our brand...”

Copped this video from the good people of Ageing B-Boys Unite a short film, YOKEL ADDICTS from Roundabout Town Productions. It's about a group of people in Swindon who all have one thing in common - a vinyl obsession.
I'm sure it'll strike a chord with some of you out there. And the interesting thing about it is that unlike some crate-diggers, it delivers with a rather humourous way about it, too.
